How do I use LAN Monitor?
Note: LAN Monitor is available on TinyPilot Pro 3.3.0 and later. When user authentication is enabled, only Administrator accounts can open LAN Monitor.
Overview
LAN Monitor discovers devices on TinyPilot's local networks and tracks whether selected devices are reachable.
Use it to see what is on the same LAN as your TinyPilot, give important hosts friendly names, and monitor whether those hosts stay online, without installing a separate network probe.
LAN Monitor scans TinyPilot's own network interfaces (for example, LAN1, LAN2, and Wi-Fi). It does not scan through Tailscale or other overlay networks.
Open LAN Monitor
- Sign in to TinyPilot as an Administrator.
- Open System > LAN Monitor.

Enable discovery and choose networks
- Turn on "Enable device discovery and monitoring."
- Under Interface, check each network you want TinyPilot to scan (for example, LAN1 or Wi-Fi).
- If a network is larger than /24, enter a Scan Range such as
192.168.1.0/24. Networks larger than /24 require a scan range. - Click "Scan Now" to discover devices immediately, or wait for the next automatic scan.

TinyPilot scans selected networks every 10 minutes. Monitored devices are checked every 30 seconds.
Note: If you enable Wi-Fi scanning, TinyPilot may not see other Wi-Fi devices when your access point isolates wireless clients.
Monitor important devices
After discovery, LAN Monitor lists devices with their IP address, MAC address, interface, presence, and last seen time.
- Optionally enter a Friendly Name for a device.
- Check "Monitor" for hosts you care about (up to 25 devices).

Presence values:
- Online — TinyPilot recently saw the device on the network.
- Offline — TinyPilot can no longer reach a monitored device.
- Unknown — TinyPilot has not determined presence yet (for example, after enabling LAN Monitor or when an interface is down).
Unchecking an interface stops scanning that network. Monitored devices on unchecked interfaces no longer count toward the 25-device limit.
Download LAN Monitor data
Click "Download Data" to save a JSON snapshot of the current LAN Monitor status and device list.
The file is named like tinypilot-lan-monitor-<timestamp>.json . Use it for troubleshooting, records, or offline review.
Integrations that need live LAN Monitor data should use TinyPilot's REST API instead of the downloaded file.
Disable LAN Monitor
To stop discovery and monitoring, open System > LAN Monitor and turn off "Enable device discovery and monitoring."
TinyPilot keeps the last discovered devices and names. Counts and presence are not live while LAN Monitor is disabled.
